Victims
Citizens (the common laborer and technologically lacking) These people are the main victims of censorship because they are the ones who are not able to access information that they should be allowed to see. Freedom of speech is suppressed, as shown in many cases by the Chinese government, unlike here in America. |
Perpetrators
Government The government does not want the citizens to know about atrocities that take place or even how different their lives are, so they censor the information that people can see. Private Companies Internet giants such as Google and Yahoo along with private companies that work in communist countries abide by the country's rules because if they do not they will be taken down (in that country) or hacked by state-funded computer programmers. Occasionally, these companies will provide information to the countries about activists online (ex. Yahoo scandal of February 2006). |
People Assisting Victims
Humanitarian Organizations There are many groups across the world that try to prevent censorship. These groups include Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, and big companies like Google try to jump past censorship laws to provide the citizens with authentic information. |
